Click this magical link to create a new Showit account and receive one free month of Showit. You always have a 14-day free trial period. After that, you may choose any subscription you'd like.
Log in to Showit and click your name in the bottom left corner. Click the tab "Your designs" and click "Add design to library." Paste the keycode in the window, and there you have your new website!
The original template sits safely in your Showit Design Library. You can change everything and go back to the original design at any time. It's also handy to duplicate a page before you edit it. This way, you can always return to or look at the original page layout while you edit.
It’s best to quickly map out your website and gather or create your content first, so you have a clear vision. Then change as much or as little as you’d like to make the template fit your business and brand perfectly. Use the workflow below with helpful tips and resources for every step of the way from start to launch.
This easy workflow is to help you get started, keep going, and check off all the things on the website. You can jump from one step to the next and back again. There is no right way, only your way! I created these steps as guidance and to point you to helpful resources. If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with me!
Let's hit the ground running and do some prep work before you dive into Showit. Download the website checklist and take a quick look at it, so you begin with the end in mind. Then download the Content Checklist and map out your website. Write your copy and collect all the images for each page. Collect your logo, favicon, graphics, colors, and fonts.
Have a quick look at the Showit Overview video, and you are all set to rock your new website project!
Let's dive in! Start with adjusting the Site Settings, Design Settings and upload your images into the Media Gallery. You can create a folder for each page and keep your images organized. When you want to replace colors, it's best to swap colors for the same kind of shade. For example, if you want to add a dark green, you can replace a dark gray instead of replacing a light beige. This way, the new colors will resonate well with the template design.
Let's move and shake things around! Start editing the Site Canvasses first. These canvasses have diagonal stripes and are on each and every page of your website, like the navigation and footer. Then edit the home page and work your way through every page one by one. You can always go back to the original template design because it sits safely in your Design Library. You can also make a duplicate of a page before you edit it. Click the three little dots next to the page name and click "Duplicate." This way, you can always quickly go back to the original layout or take a look at it while you edit. When you are done, you can delete the duplicated page the same way.
Maybe you already worked on the functions of your website while editing each page. If not, now is a good time to make sure everything connects, links, and works well.
If you need help with Mailchimp, please let me know. I know some cool dudes who can quickly provide custom code to embed the signup form on your website. If you don't want to struggle, then I highly recommend Mailerlite. Mailerlite is also free and has a much cleaner and easier interface. You can do everything yourself.
Before you launch your website it needs to be connected to your domain with or without a new blog or existing blog. You can do this step sooner or later, but please keep in mind that it takes Showit around 2-4 days to set it up for you.
First edit your Coming Soon page and set it as your home page via the three little dots next to the page name. Then you can request the domain setup. Please click the links on the right for the exact steps to take.
Now that your domain is connected, you need to click the button "Publish" to make your changes visible to everyone, for real. But you can totally do that because your Coming Soon page is live. Pfieuw! You can edit the blog pages and make sure everything looks good and works well behind the scenes. If you want to see your new changes, you can go to yourwebsite.com/blog or any other page. Keep in mind that if you have requested a new blog, you need to add a couple of blog posts to WordPress first.
Showit has very easy and effective SEO tools built in! I understand that after all of this customization, you may not want to dive into keywords and meta descriptions. But it's a good thing to at least set the Page title, Meta Description and Share image for your home page, and preferably all pages. When you launch your website, you are going to share your site URL. When you optimize SEO for the home page, the link will show the picture and description, and that's way more pretty than just a simple link ;-)
You are almost there! Click and test everrrrything! You can also ask a family member or friend to take a look with fresh eyes. You can request a free website check with me, where I quickly view your website to see if everything is good to go. You can also hire me to tweak and edit everything to give your website a clean, designer look.
Ready? Set your home page as your home page, hit publish, and you are live!!!! You did it!! I am so happy for you. I'm giving you a big virtual hug and raising my glass to you and your stunning new website!
I would love to hear your thoughts about this creative website adventure. Your feedback means the world to me! I would also like to give you a little boost on Pinterest and showcase your new website in my look book. Sounds fun? Send me an email, and we'll make it happen!
Liefs, Dianta
